Court of Illusions

So I was looking through some old vacation pictures a few days ago...

"hmm...oh, that's a good picture. The basilica looks beautiful...
...hey wait...I think I've seen an image like this somewhere else recently.
...
-yeah. this reminds me of a background image in one of my favorite novels."

Right, so St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, Italy is the Court of Illusions in the Umineko series?
maybe. I don't know where the background images in the novels come from, so it is possible that the Court of Illusions images are edited photos/drawings of this place. There are numerous archetectual similarities, anyway.
and then I decided it would be fun to edit a copy of the image and make it all glowy and purple like the novel image.

The main difference between the two is the giant wooden altar that's in my shot, there's nothing like that in the novel image. However, behind that wooden altar, there is another one (it's kind of hard to see, since it's really far back...the basilica is HUGE). And that one is golden, and styled somewhat similarly as the one in the novel image. Perhaps if I would have taken my shot closer to the front of the church, it could have gotten it from an angle comparable to Umineko's. I hadn't read the novels at the time of my vacation, which was in 2009.

So I didn't do a whole lot of editing here. Colorize to purple. Contrast Enhance. Lens Flare. Glow. that's really it.
And I did draw on the ceiling...what is it, cracks, clouds?..I dunno - those black patches on the dome area.

Oh, and I since I have multiple images of the basilica, I'm making a second, which I'll post later...and I could make more, since I took alot of pictures because that place is amazing.
